Lexington man wanted on 2024 murder charge arrested in Horry County

Lexington, SC 05/08/2025 - Horry County Police Department officers have arrested a Lexington man accused of stabbing a man to death last year.
Donovan Ryan Holman, 34, is charged with murder and attempted murder, according to arrest warrants.
“We’ve been looking for Holman since he was involved in a situation at a home on Oak Ridge Lane last July,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We arrested Edward Leroy Smith on the same charges for his involvement in August.”
Both men are charged with murder in the stabbing death of Caldwell Melton Motley Jr., according to Koon. The attempted murder charge stems from the stabbing of another man who was found injured inside a detached garage beside the home that burned July 20.
“Over the course of their investigation, detectives determined Holman stabbed Mr. Motley to death,” Koon said. “Detectives also determined Holman seriously wounded another man at the scene by striking him with an edged object. Victim and witness interviews, evidence and electronic data indicate Holman was at the Oak Ridge Lane scene shortly before a 911 call was made in reference to smoke coming from the house.”
Holman is being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway. Horry County police officers arrested Holman Wednesday after he was reported as an unwanted person at a Myrtle Beach home. He will be transferred to the Lexington County Detention Center at a later date.
