Lexington, SC 01/28/2022 (Paul Kirby) – A spokesperson for Lexington County School District One said Friday that Special Services Director Dr. Wendy Balough has announced she will be retiring. Her retirement will take effective March 14, 2022.
Dr. Balough oversees the District’s Special Education programs and services. She dedicated 7 years of service to District One and during that period, she served many children and families who benefitted from customized learning plans and innovative educational techniques in order for them to excel and learn in their own unique way.
The District’s spokesperson said that District One has already begun to search for Dr. Balough’s replacement. As part of our hiring process, they immediately posted the position and hope to name a new director in the next few months.
In the interim, Elizabeth Render will serve as the interim director. Ms. Render has served as special education compliance coordinator for many years and is devoted to supporting our schools and students.
