Lexington, SC 12/18/2021 – Lexington’s Police Chief Terrence Green announced Friday that the Lexington Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies statewide, will be participating in the Sober or Slammer! Christmas and New Year’s campaign again this year. During this campaign, officers will be conducting enhanced DUI enforcement activities through the New Year’s Day holiday and will be focused on drivers who are impaired by alcohol or drugs.
For the next two and a half weeks, officers of the Traffic Safety Unit and the Patrol Division will work together on DUI enforcement, as well as participate in several public safety checkpoints. Those with holiday parties and gatherings are asked to have a plan to get home safe anytime alcohol has been consumed.
The Sober or Slammer! campaign falls under the South Carolina Department of Public Safety Target Zero initiative to end all highway fatalities and is part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown coordinated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This national effort includes state and local law enforcement agencies across the country and this campaign combines high-visibility enforcement with heightened public awareness through advertising and publicity.
