Lexington PD patrolman named SCDPS DUI Officer of the Year

Lexington, SC - 04/30/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington Police Department took a few moments recently to congratulate one of their own who received a statewide award from the SC Department of Public Safety (SCDPS). According to the department, Patrolman First Class Shawn Ludwig of their Traffic Safety Unit was recently named the SCDPS’s "DUI Officer of the Year" for category 4 in the 2020 DUI Enforcement Awards.

PFC. Ludwig is a traffic safety instructor with over 650 hours of related advanced training. He made 25 arrests for DUI 2020 and has already made 21 arrests for DUI in 2021. That equates to 46 opportunities for traffic collisions that could have seriously injured or killed countless people including all our own families had not Pfc. Ludwig been able to intervene at the appropriate time.

Keep in mind that PFC. Ludwig’s work has far reaching implications. Even if you do not drive in the Town of Lexington, these intoxicated drivers may have made it out of the town and into the surrounding areas. The fact that PFC. Ludwig got them off the streets in Lexington means that he has made the roads of Lexington County safer for every other motorist who is driving as they should.

For years, the Lexington Police Department has taken traffic safety seriously. Because of the tremendous growth of the area, traffic is a top priority for the department and its officers. According to spokesperson for the Department, PFC. Ludwig is fully committed to the strategic goal of reducing traffic collisions, injuries, and deaths.
