Lexington police advises of road closures for Sunday's Veteran's Parade

Lexington, SC – Chief Terrence Green of the Lexington Police Department announced Friday the roads that will be closed and the appropriate detours in Lexington on the afternoon of Sunday, November 1, 2020, before and during the 18th Annual Lexington County Veterans Parade in downtown Lexington.

The road closures and detours will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the closure of West Butler Street, from Columbia Avenue to North Church Street, along with Haygood Street and part of Meetze Street, to allow those involved in the parade to stage and prepare their floats. Please plan on arriving early if you are participating in the parade.

The Lexington County Veterans Parade will use the route of Haywood Street to West Main Street to South Lake Drive to Fort Street. Best viewing of this parade will be along West Main Street through downtown Lexington to the Lexington County Veterans Memorial on South Lake Drive near the Virginia Hylton Park.

Due to coronavirus precautions, attendees are asked to social distance and are also encouraged, though not required by the Town of Lexington emergency ordinance, to wear a mask at this outdoor event.

To prepare for the 3:00 p.m. start of the Lexington County Veterans Parade, West Main Street, from Columbia Avenue to North Lake Drive, along with South Lake Drive to Fort Street, will close at 2:45 p.m. All traffic will be detoured around the parade route until the event is complete. The route will be signed and officers will be directing traffic on detour roadways.

West Main Street and South Lake Drive will be reopened by approximately 4:30 p.m.

West Butler Street, from Columbia Avenue to South Church Street, will continue to stay closed until all parade floats and participants are clear from the roadway.

It is advised that attendees arrive early and to park in public parking near the event as those who park in private business parking lots take on the risk of being towed from the property at the owner’s expense.

Public parking lots include the Town of Lexington Municipal Complex, grass parking lots on South Church Street, the County of Lexington Administration Building, and the Lexington County Courthouse parking lots.
