Lexington police officers and Richland County sheriff's deputies arrest man who ran over Lexington County deputy

Lexington, SC 10/09/2024 - Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green announced Wednesday the arrest of Antwan Martel Jeter, age 36 of Cayce, after he assaulted a sheriff's deputy and ran over him with a car as law enforcement officers were attempting to arrest him on a warrant.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., Antwan Jeter drove to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department to complete court ordered registration as a sex offender. During this process it was found that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. When approached by deputies, he ran to a car where a struggle ensued as they attempted to take him into custody. During this struggle, Antwan Jeter backed up the car and drove over a deputy as he fled from the parking lot.
The Lexington Police Department and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department searched the area for the car and then began following up addresses that Antwan Jeter was known to be at.
Antwan Jeter was taken into custody this evening by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department at the home of a family member on Allaire Ct S in Blythewood.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy has been hospitalized but is believed to have non-life threatening injuries.
The Lexington Police Department will be charging Antwan Jeter with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer while Resisting Arrest, Hit and Run with Great Bodily Injury, and Malicious Injury to Property.
Additional charges will be pending from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
