West Columbia, SC 10/12/2022 - Lexington Two proudly announced this week the selection of Lexington Two Innovation Center (L2IC) educator Anne Reamer as District Teacher of the Year.
Superintendent Dr. Brenda Hafner, L2IC Director Joni Coleman and Assistant Director Bernie Adkins, and other district administrators surprised Reamer with the news in her classroom Monday morning, as students gave her a round of applause.
Reamer works in the fast-changing area of business and technology, with a specialization in animation, motion graphics, and multimedia.
“What makes Anne an outstanding educator is her commitment to her students and passion for teaching,” Coleman said. “She is constantly working to learn ever-changing software to ensure her students are learning the latest programs. She spends countless hours with students videoing, photographing, and editing events for our school, district, and our community. She is always willing to go above and beyond for her students and our school.”
Reamer said she has several goals as an educator.
“As a Career and Technology teacher, my goal is to guide my students to use the skills they have attained in their academic pursuits in a practical, hands-on environment. I believe being able to apply concept to skill is one of the most important things we can teach our students,” Reamer said.
“Among the things I want my students to take away from my classes are being able to communicate person to person, the employability skills necessary to be successful in their careers and in life, and a background in technology that they can use to adapt to and apply to any career they choose,” she added.
Reamer is a National Board Certified business educator with more than 20 years of teaching experience. She started her career in 2000 in Lexington Two at Airport High School, then held teaching positions at AC Flora High School in Richland 1, Gilbert High School in Lexington 1, and Irmo High School in Lexington-Richland 5. She returned to Airport in 2012, eventually moving in 2017 to the Lexington Two Innovation Center, which is a district hub for college and career programs.
Among professional organizations, Reamer is a member of the Journalism Education Association, Palmetto State Teachers Association, South Carolina Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, Association of Career and Technical Educators, Technology Student Association, and Skills USA. In Lexington Two, she is an advisor for Lex2be, Lex2be Multimedia Club, and Convergence Media, as well as an ESports coach. She is a district technology committee member and a teacher mentor. Reamer received a bachelor’s degree from The University of South Carolina and a M.Ed. from Columbia College.
Reamer’s selection as District Teacher of the Year was made by a panel of judges from the community in the business and education fields. She will now represent Lexington Two in the SC Teacher of the Year competition. The statewide winner is named in the spring.
