Lexington, SC 09/07/2021 – September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when Lexington County Public Library (LCPL) joins the American Library Association (ALA) and other libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that a library card is an important tool on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

There is nothing more empowering than signing up for your library card. Through access to technology, media resources, educational programs and much more, a library card gives students the tools to succeed in the classroom and provides people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams and passions.

Libraries continue to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our communities by offering everything from early literacy programs to virtual homework assistance, helping transform lives through education and enrichment. At LCPL, you’ll find a variety of resources and activities, including in person and online programs on Facebook and YouTube and extensive databases like Mango Languages and Discus’ Explora, Pebble Go and Tutor.com for elementary, middle and high schoolers.

“Libraries play an important role in education and development,” said LCPL Director Kelly Poole. “We have library programs that serve students of all ages and interests such as storytimes, book clubs, nature walks, writing groups, gaming, crafting and more. Even as adults, we never stop learning. So, what better way to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month and support lifelong literacy than to get a library card?”

All 10 Lexington County Library branches are back to normal hours and open for in-person programs and services — book clubs, browsing complete with a self-checkout option, computer, laptop and wifi use, copying, mobile printing and more. Social distancing is encouraged and wearing a mask is recommended.

This year, Marley Dias, founder of #1000BlackGirlBooks, author and executive producer, is taking on a new role as honorary chair of Library Card Sign-up Month. In her new role, Dias will promote the value of libraries and encourage everyone to get their very own library card.

Visit our website or your local branch, get a library card and discover a rich and diverse world. For current information on LCPL operations, visit lexcolibrary.com or connect with the library on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or Instagram.
