St. Andrews, SC 04/20/2022 (Paul Kirby) - On February 20, 2022, the world lost another young soul before her time. Kaylee Wratten was 12 years old and had been diagnosed with two different types of muscular dystrophy, Ulrich, and Bethlehem Myopathy.
When she was first diagnosed, all Kaylee’s doctors gave her and her family little hope. They said that she would never walk or live past the age of 7-years-old. This child, many compared to Wonder Woman, did walk, and continued walking for 5 years. Ever the fighter, she lived to be 12 years old proving her doctors wrong and beating all the odds.
Kaylee was a vivacious child who loved singing, anything arts-related, and all things Disney. Her favorite princess was Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and just like Belle, this girl saw the good in everyone that she came into contact with. No matter who they were, she brought out the good in everyone that knew her.
Now, just two months after her passing, friends and family have organized an event to honor this sweet angel and support to Muscular Dystrophy awareness. Funds raised will also help Kaylee’s family with the expenses incurred before and after her passing. On Saturday, April 23rd from noon until 4 p.m., organizer have scheduled a Disney Karaoke singing. It will be held at the Wings and Ale located at 125 Outlet Pointe Blvd Suite C in Columbia, SC. This is at the Bush River Road and I-20 interchange in the St. Andrews area of the county. They will also be having a silent auction with donations from businesses across the state.
Everyone is invited to come and join the organizers as they support this family in any way that they can. If you would like to donate, please contact Emily Smoak or Broghan Osborn. Their contact information is included below.
