Lake Murray, SC 05/04/2022 - Walkers on the Lake Murray Dam have a new way to stay hydrated on a hot summer day. Lexington Medical Center and Dominion Energy have partnered to install new water fountains along the walkway at the dam.
The walkway is a popular 1.7-mile pathway along S.C. Highway 6 frequented by runners and walkers. The new drinking fountains are located on the Irmo and Lexington sides of the dam and now include water bottle filling stations.
The partnership between Lexington Medical Center and Dominion Energy encourages the public to “Be Well” and promotes healthy living.
“The Lake Murray Dam walkway is one of the most widely used recreational areas in the Midlands, so we were pleased Dominion Energy wanted to work together to upgrade the drinking fountains at the dam,” said Lara Lott Moore, vice president for community medical centers at Lexington Medical Center. “We want to encourage everyone to be active and be well.”
“Partnering with Lexington Medical Center provides a great opportunity for us to support the health and well-being of visitors to the Lake Murray Dam walkway,” said Iris Griffin, vice president of power generation, Dominion Energy South Carolina. “We hope these new water filling stations make it more convenient for everyone to stay properly hydrated while they enjoy the outdoors on this wonderful walkway.”
The dam walkway opened in 2007 and draws thousands of pedestrians a year.
