Chapin, SC 02/20/2021 (Paul Kirby) – The SC Highway Patrol has charged a man with Felony Driving Under the Influence Involving Death after one person was killed in a collision on I-26 near Chapin early Saturday morning. According to Sgt. Sonny Collins of the SCHP, this wreck happened on the west bound side of I-26 near the 91 mm about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021.
Sgt. Collins said that Christian J. Luna was arrested after the 2017 Dodge Challenger he was driving struck a Dodge Caravan in the rear as it was slowing for traffic on the interstate. The force of the impact pushed the Dodge minivan into a pickup ahead of it that had also slowed. The force of the collision killed the operator of the minivan and injured the two passengers in it.
Luna was arrested on the scene and transported by troopers to the Lexington County Detention Center where he was booked. He was still there after 7:00 a.m. Saturday but no booking photo was available.
This case is being investigated by the SCHP with the assistance of the MAIT Team.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher's Office will release the name of the decedent once their next of kin has been properly notified.
