Gilbert, SC 10/04/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon says that one man is dead after shooting his wife and then taking his own life. According to Sheriff Koon, this happened Tuesday morning near Gilbert in what was first reported as a domestic dispute.
The woman was shot by her husband before being treated by firefighters and EMS personnel. She was flown from a nearby landing zone via helicopter to a local trauma center. Sheriff Koon said that they don’t have any current updates on her condition.
This all happened on Haskell Road, according to investigators. After the shooting, the man fled the home and deputies used K-9s police dogs and a drone to search for him. A short time later, the deputies found the man dead of an apparent suicide.
Sheriff Koon said in his statement that, “This is an unfortunate situation, and the family has some tough times ahead. He continued by reiterating that the entire investigation into this incident is still ongoing.”
“We are still talking with family members and neighbors in an effort to help us gather as much information as possible,” Koon said. “We’d encourage anyone with details they feel could benefit our work on the case to reach out and share what they know.” You can call the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department by dialing (803) 785-8230.
