Man who robbed Pelion Dollar General now in custody

Pelion, SC 01/19/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A man who recently robbed the Dollar General on Pine Street (SC 302) in Pelion has been arrested in another portion of South Carolina. According to Pelion Police Chief John Rebolj, during the commission of this crime the clerk who was working in the store at the time received minor injuries.

Chief Rebolj said that on January 11, 2021 a black male wearing a camouflage stocking and face mask, a blue jacket, and blue jeans entered the store, robbed it, and then fled the scene of the crime in a white Honda Accord. Witnesses were able to provide enough information including a license tag number that helped police identify LaGeorge Jackson as the suspect in this crime. Based on the evidence and eyewitness testimony, police were able to obtain a warrant charging Jackson with common law robbery and assault in the first degree. A record of those arrest warrants was placed in the National Crime Information Computer or NCIC system.

On January 16, 2021 the Chester County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a stolen car that Jackson was in. Instead of pulling over when commanded to do so by law enforcement, Jackson instead chose to flee. Eventually that pursuit ended in a collision. Officers then took Jackson into custody. Because of the crash, the deputies had Jackson medically checked at the Piedmont Medical Center where it was determined that his injuries were minor.

According to Chief Rebolj, Jackson is still being held in the Chester County Detention Center where he was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, failure to stop for blue lights, driving under the influence, and a number of other traffic offenses. Jackson is also a suspect in several other robberies in the Columbia area. He will be transferred back to Lexington County at some point in the future

to face pending charges here.

Chief Rebolj said that he offers his thanks to Sheriff Max Dorsey and the men and women of the Chester County Sheriff’s Department for there assistance throughout this investigation.
