Lexington, SC 08/16/2023 (Paul Kirby) – Charles Wesley Varn, 64, has been charged with Felony DUI Involving Death following a crash Sunday that killed a 2-month-old baby boy. Varn was arrested by the SCHP and booked into the Lexington County Detention Center after the collision.

According to the SC Highway Patrol, Varn was travelling west toward Pelion on Edmund Highway near Asbury Kneese Lane when he struck a small SUV that was travelling in the same direction in the rear end. The SUV went off the road, struck a tree and power pole, and then overturned. The infant, who was restrained in a car seat, was killed in the crash. The two other occupants of that vehicle were also seriously injured. Varn was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local medical center after the crash.

As of Wednesday, August 16, 2023, Varn had been denied bail and was still in Lexington County’s Detention Center. No other information has been released regarding his court dates.
