Lexington, SC 06/10/2022 - Miss Capital City 2022 will host a blood drive with The Blood Connection on June 14th, 2022, from 8 am to 2 pm at the Lexington Chamber. The Chamber’s officers are located at 1311 West Main Street in Lexington.
World Blood Donor Day is held on June 14th each year. The event was organized for the first time in 2005 to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their voluntary, life-saving gifts of blood.
Hosting a blood drive coincides with Miss Capital, Callie Farrell’s social impact initiative, Blood Connects Us All, where she not only works to elevate blood donations but also educates people about the importance of blood donations and encourages them to do so.
Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients, and trauma victims, according to The Blood Connection. Miss Capital City and The Blood Connection urge eligible donors to join in the selfless act of giving blood.
Summer is a very difficult time for blood donation. Appointments to donate often drop during the summer months but the need for blood, however, never takes a summer vacation. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative, and A negative.
