Missing child and pet out of Cayce found safe, suspect still at large

Cayce, SC – 02/10/2021 (Paul Kirby) – 2-year-old Carlee Folk, who was abducted Tuesday night while waiting in a car outside of a Cayce motel, has been found and is safe. This according to a spokesman for the Cayce Department of Public Safety.

Just before 9:00 pm Tuesday night, a man described simply as an African American jumped into a car sitting outside the Quality Inn at 3200 Charleston Highway in Cayce. A 2-year-old white female was in the car along with a dog when the car was driven away by the man.

Law enforcement officials quickly began searching for the 2003 Lexus sedan which had no license tag. They also issued an Amber Alert for the child through that nationwide system. At one point, they had a report that the vehicle had been spotted in the Pine Ridge area of Lexington County.

Cayce officers were joined by deputies from Lexington County and officers from other jurisdictions as a full-scale search was mounted. A TIP LINE was quickly set up and the media was notified and asked to help spread the word about the missing child. The City of Cayce also released photos of the African American suspect, the child, the dog, and the vehicle in hopes that someone would spot them.

Between midnight and 1:00 a.m. the department issued a statement saying that the child and the dog were located and were safe. They also said that the suspect was still at large.

Cayce Department of Public Safety officials say they are still searching for the suspect at this point. They ask that you please look at the photos of him carefully.
