Swansea, SC – 04/09/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home was heavily damaged by fire in the 1100 block of Jones-Wire Road Friday morning. The call regarding the fire came in around 10:00 a.m.
Firefighters from across southern Lexington County raced to the scene and when the first truck and men arrived, they found smoke pushing from the eaves. That engine's crew suited up, pulled their hoses, and began an offensive attack on the burning structure. Within a few more moments, additional resources began to arrive, and teams came together to search the home, fight the fire, and begin the overhaul phase of the operation.
Because there is no water system in that area, a rural water supply operation was put in place as the firefighters made their attack. This allowed them to have all the water they needed during the battle. In a short amount of time, the first due battalion chief reported that they had the fire under control.
No one was injured in the fire although a family pet that was in the home did not survive. Lexington County firefighters were assisted by a crew from Lexington County EMS. Dominion Energy also responded to disconnect the electricity from the house.
Just after noon, the fire was declared completely out by the fire ground commander. All equipment left the scene at that time.
The county has not yet determined the cause of the fire.
