Mobile home destroyed by fire on Charleston Hwy. near I-26 interchange Monday afternoon

Dixiana, SC 01/30/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from Lexington County’s Fire Service, the West Columbia Fire Department, and City of Cayce Fire Department responded to a report of a mobile home fire in the 3800 block of Charleston Highway around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2024. This is the Rolling Meadows Mobile Home Park area of Lexington County.

The first arriving units found heavy fire and smoke showing from the single-wide mobile home. They immediately pulled their hoses and began an aggressive interior attack. Together, the teams made a quick knockdown on the fire. They then moved into a phase where they checked for extension, ventilated the structure, and overhauled it to confirm the fire had been put completely out.

Because the home was destroyed, the American Red Cross was notified to assist with the displacement of five adults and four kids. The cause was determined to be accidental after a lit candle was placed too close to combustible material. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service took the opportunity to remind residents of the county that if you have candles in your home, please never leave them unattended, and a safe distance away from things such as furniture, bedding, curtains, or other combustibles that could catch fire.
