Mobile home destroyed by fire on Saturday near Gaston

Gaston, SC – 03/21/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A single-wide mobile home caught fire and burned Saturday morning just north of Gaston. The fire was reported about 9:30 a.m. on Woodtrail Drive. Lexington County firefighters had already been busy dealing with calls about power lines arching in windblown trees and vehicle collisions across other portions of the county as a stiff, cold wind blew.

The first arriving fire equipment and manpower pulled in to find the home fully engulfed in flames. That team set up a defensive attack as more resources arrived on scene. The firefighters formed into groups and began pouring water on the fire as a reliable water supply was established. When the fire officers began to arrive, they set up a command structure to manage the fire ground and keep the firefighters safe.

Once the water supply was established and more firefighters arrived, the blaze was quickly controlled. It took about an hour for the teams to pull burning and fallen pieces from the home to ensure that all the fire was found and had been put out. Some fire crews were on the scene until about 11:30 a.m. searching out all the remaining embers and picking their equipment up to reload the trucks.

Firefighters were advised by a neighbor that no one was in the home at the time of the fire. Lexington County has not said what started the fire.
