Red Bank, SC (Paul Kirby) - A motorcyclist was killed in a collision in the Red Bank area of Lexington County late Friday afternoon. The collision occurred at the intersection of Platt Springs Road and McLee Road not far from White Knoll High School.
According to Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, at 5:50 p.m. Friday, a motorcyclist riding on a 2013 Honda was traveling east toward Columbia on Platt Springs Road. The driver of a Kia Optima was traveling west in the opposite direction. Just as the motorcycle was approaching the intersection, the driver of the Kia turned left toward McLee Road causing the motorcycle to collide with the car. The motorcyclist was ejected from the bike and died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The operator of the Kia was transported to the Lexington Medical Center with what is believed to have been non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Tidwell the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The operator of the Kia had their seat belt on.
Tidwell said that the collision is being investigated by the SCHP’S Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher's office will release the identity of the deceased once his family has been full notified.
