Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - The driver of a vehicle was taken into custody Monday afternoon just before 3:00 p.m. after a vehicle she was operating left South Lake Drive and crashed in the parking lot of the Kinard & Jones law offices. This is near the intersection of South Lake Drive and Fort Street right at the Lexington County Administration Building.
According to a witness, once the vehicle left the road it struck a utility pole before coming to a stop. The pole was damaged to the point that its owner, Dominion Energy, had to send a work crew to repair it. Traffic continued to flow slowly at first, but eventually, Lexington Police Department officers had to completely stop traffic on South Lake for a short while as the Dominion's crew was doing their work. Motorists were rerouted through a short detour using a portion of the county's administration building’s access roads until the crew was able to clear the street.
A Lexington County ambulance and firefighters from the fire service responded to assist Lexington’s police officers and check out the driver. That individual was placed under arrest and transported to a local medical facility to be treated for what was reported to be minor injuries. She was later booked into the Lexington County Detention Center for driving while impaired.
