Irmo, SC 11/05/2021 (Paul Kirby) – A gasoline tanker truck’s driver missed his turn in the Irmo area of Lexington County early Friday causing the truck of flip onto its side. The original crash occurred about 3 a.m. as the truck was enroute to drop its payload at a nearby convenience store. The driver is reported to have made a wrong turn getting lost and that placed him in a residential area instead of the commercial corridor he would normally have travelled. The collision happened on Nursery Road near Fork Avenue closing down streets and roads in the general area.

Irmo Fire District firefighters were first on the scene, and they were quickly joined by crews from the City of Columbia and Lexington County’s Fire Service. Representatives from several state agencies were also on the scene. The truck never caught fire although there were some small leaks reported that a hazardous materials crew quickly mitigated.

As of 9:30 a.m., crews were beginning the process of offloading the truck of its payload. A representative of the Irmo Fire District said that may take most of the day Friday.
