Murphy’s convenience and gas station coming to Sunset Boulevard

Lexington, SC (06/03/2021 Paul Kirby) – A lot of people have been questioning what is happening at the site of the old Ryan’s Family Buffett on Sunset Boulevard in Lexington. The building has been razed and there is groundwork underway for new construction. A quick email to Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall has provided the answer.

According to the mayor, the new occupancy will be a Murphy gas station and convenience store. According to Google, Murphy USA is an American corporation operating a chain of retail gas stations that are primarily located in proximity to Walmart stores. It was founded as a spin-off of Murphy Oil in 2013. In 2018, it was ranked 279 on the Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by revenue. There is already a Murphy further down Sunset close to Northside Baptist Church.

Although many in the past have shown opposition to more c-stores along this busy corridor, current zoning and planning laws allow this type of occupancy. No timeline for the store’s completion or opening has been given.
