Lexington, SC 10/15/2022 (Paul Kirby) – Lexington Police Officer William Garner graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy last week. He was then given the Oath of Affirmation at the Law Enforcement Hall of Fame. William is the latest in a long line of well-known law enforcement officers that goes back four generations. This includes his father Chris, both of his grandfathers, and his great-grandfather.
William’s father Chris Garner was on hand to present him with his diploma. Officer Chris Garner is currently working with the South Congaree Police Department but has been a law enforcement legend in Lexington County having worked as a regional commander under former Sheriff Jimmy Metts with the Sheriff’s Department. He later was approached by the elected officials of the Town of Pelion and rebuilt the Pelion Police Department after years of it being out of service. He has nearly 43 years of law enforcement service to the citizens of the county.
William’s mother Connie is the daughter of now retired Swansea Magistrate Bill Shockley. Bill also worked at the Sheriff’s Department before becoming a judge. Bill's son Greg, William's uncle, is currently second in command at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and his son recently began his law enforcement career at Lexington as well. To say that William’s blood runs blue is not an understatement.
After Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green gave William his Oath of Affirmation, he returned to Lexington to continue his field training with their Bravo Shift of the town PD’s Patrol Division.
