West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) - A gas leak forced law enforcement officials to close East Hospital Drive at the entrance to Lexington Medical Center’s main campus Wednesday. The closure, which was put into place around noon, was affecting the primary entrance to the emergency room.
The emergency room was still operating throughout the incident however anyone who needed to access it was asked to use West Hospital Drive, the road closest to Lexington, to go around the hospital. Other operations at the hospital were not impacted and the rest of the campus was accessible from West Hospital Drive as well.
Dominion Energy is the area’s gas provider. They had personnel on the scene and by 12:50 p.m. Wednesday, atmospheric readings had returned to normal and the fire department was leaving the scene.
