Old auto dealership damaged by early morning fire Monday

St Andrews, SC (Paul Kirby) 12/07/2020 - The old Jaguar dealership at the intersection of Fernandina and Bettie Roads in the Saint Andrews area was damaged by an early morning fire Monday. Lexington County's Emergency Dispatch Center received a call just before 4:30 a.m. and dispatched fire units from the Irmo Fire District, Lexington County’s Fire Service, and the City of Columbia and the West Columbia Fire Departments.

First arriving fire teams reported the building had flames coming from its roof when they arrived. They designated this a working fire as more units from across the area converged on the scene. One passerby said that she counted at least seven fire trucks and several law enforcement cruisers on scene while traveling toward Columbia about 4:40 a.m. heading to work. Additional chief officers went enroute and Lexington County’s duty officer was notified. He began moving trucks from the interior of the county to cover stations whose staff and equipment were committed at the fire. Together, the teams quickly brought the blaze under control.

The building has not been used for many years. The fire’s cause has been listed as under investigation.
