One dead after house fire in the Town of Lexington Monday morning

Lexington, SC 03/29/2022 (Paul Kirby) – One person has died in a house fire in the Town of Lexington Monday morning. The fire which occurred around 11 a.m. was first dispatched as a structure fire with possible entrapment. According to Lexington County, the fire happened in the 200 block of Waverly Court off Old Chapin Road.


Lexington County firefighters responded and arrived on the scene quickly. They received assistance from the Irmo Fire District and the West Columbia Fire Department. Because of the believe that someone was trapped in the home, they immediately began a primary search upon arrival and located a female victim which the firefighters pulled from the home. This woman was loaded into an ambulance from Lexington County EMS and transported to a local medical facility. Despite the efforts of all the rescuers, she died at the hospital.

According to County Coroner Margaret Fisher, the woman who perished was Bonnie Gayle Bass, 50, of Lexington. Fisher has scheduled an autopsy on Bass today to positively identify the cause and manner of death.


The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division as well as the Town of Lexington Police Department.
