One dead following crash on I-26 near Sandy Run Tuesday evening

Sandy Run, SC 06/19/2024 (Paul Kirby) – Master Trooper Gary Miller of the SC Highway Patrol (SCHP) said today that one person was killed in a collision on I-26 east at about the 129 mile-marker last night. According to Miller, the collision occurred around 7:04 p.m.

Miller said that the 2 vehicles involved were an International tractor trailer truck and a GMC Heavy Duty pickup. According to Miller, both of the vehicles were travelling toward Charleston when the GMC slowed as it entered the construction zone. The driver of the International failed to note the slowing of the pickup and slammed into its rear end. The driver of the GMC was mortally wounded and died at the scene because of the injuries he sustained in the collision. The driver of the International was transported to a local medical center with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, the man who died in the wreck was Ulysses Donell Green, 36, of Blythewood. Green, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

Coroner Fisher’s Office and the SCHP are continuing to investigate this collision.
