One dead in fatal collision on Charleston Highway in Cayce early Saturday

Cayce, SC 11/20/2022 (Paul Kirby) – One person died, and another was injured following a single-vehicle collision in the City of Cayce early Saturday. According to the Cayce Police Department, the collision happened just after midnight on Saturday, November 19, 2022.

The police said that their officers were conducting proactive patrols near Circle Drive and Charleston Highway when they saw what appeared to be a single vehicle accident. After looking further, they found the crashed vehicle was upside down and its two occupants had been ejected from it.

One passenger that was thrown from the vehicle was already dead. The other was still near the vehicle but had injuries. The Cayce police officers immediately rendered aid to the injured passenger. That person was transported by Lexington EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

The Cayce Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Team is now in the process of reviewing the evidence they’ve gathered to decide how this crash occurred. This will help the determine what led to the death of the occupant. They will compare all evidence such as skid marks, vehicle data, and witness statements. The findings of Lexington County Coroner Margret Fisher’s office will also be factored in. When all this is done, they can issue their final report.

As of 6:30 p.m. Sunday evening, Coroner Fisher had not released the identity of the deceased individual.
