One driver is dead following a wrong-way collision on I-20 early Friday morning

Samaria, SC 05/09/2025 (Paul Kirby) – One person is dead, and another was injured after a sedan that was driving in the wrong direction on I-20 struck a tractor trailer head on early Friday morning. According to Master Tropper Mitchell Ridgeway with the SC Highway Patrol, this collision occurred near the 39 mile-marker at approximately 2:00 a.m. today.
According to Ridgeway, a Volkswagen sedan was travelling west in the eastbound lane of I-20 when it collided with a Freightliner tractor trailer truck, The driver of the Volkswagen died on the scene as a result of their injuries. The operator of the tractor trailer truck was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has not yet released the name of the person who died. This crash is still under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the SCHP.
