Gaston, SC 02/09/2022 (Paul Kirby) – One person was killed Tuesday night in a two-car collision on Hwy 321 south near its intersection with Old Wire Road. According to Lance Corporal Tyler Tidwell of the SC Highway Patrol, the collision happened at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022.
Lcpl. Tidwell said that said that both of the vehicles involved were Honda automobiles. One was travelling north toward Cayce and the other was headed in the opposite direction toward Gaston. Near the Old Wire intersection, the vehicle travelling toward Gaston attempted to turn into a private drive along the highway. The northbound car struck it in the left side knocking both the cars off the road. The one that was hit in the side burst into flames and was fully involved in fire when personnel from the Lexington County Fire Service arrived.

Both vehicles involved had only one occupant. The driver of the car that was travelling toward Cayce was transported to the Trauma Center at Prizma’s Palmetto Richland Campus. The driver of the other vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene from the collision and subsequent fire.
The name of the decedent will be released by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office once her staff has notified all the next of kin.
