Lexington, SC 01/08/2024 (Paul Kirby) – One person died following a single vehicle collision in the Steadman area of western Lexington County. According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret collision occurred at North Edisto Road and Steedman Road at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
Coroner Fisher has identified the man who died as Robert Lawrence Gillespie, 54, of Batesburg-Leesville. According to Fisher, Gillespie was traveling northbound on North Edisto Road when his vehicle went off the left side of the roadway in a curve, he lost control, and struck a tree. Gillespie was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to the injuries he sustained in the accident.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
