One man killed after police pursuit on I-26 last Friday according to Coroner Fisher

Cayce, SC 01/02/2024 (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said that one man died after fleeing from Cayce police officers first in a vehicle and then on foot last Friday.  Fisher said that Raheem Jamar Bonham, 30, of West Columbia died on I-26 near the 114-mile marker at approximately 11:40 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2023.

According to Coroner Fisher, Bonham was fleeing from law enforcement when he jumped out of his vehicle between the Airport Boulevard and the Cayce exit. At this point, he crossed over the center concrete divider, and was struck by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on I-26. Bonham was pronounced dead on scene due to the injuries he sustained.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident.
