Swansea, SC 11/14/2022 (Paul Kirby) – One man died on Saturday morning in a single-vehicle collision that happened around 9:30 a.m. This was November 12, 2022. According to Corporal David Jones, a spokesman for the SC Highway Patrol, this collision happened in the vicinity of Calhoun Road and Brookhaven Court southwest of the Town of Swansea, SC.
According to Corporal Jones, the driver of the vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Impala, was Ms. Darleen Richardson. After the crash, Richardson was flown to the Trauma Center at Palmetto Richland for treatment of her injuries. A short time after she released by the hospital treatment team there, Richardson was arrested and charged with Felony Driving Under the Influence Involving Death. Her only passenger, identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as Michael Nelvin Gordon, 40, of Gaston, died shortly after the collision due to injuries he sustained in the crash. Richardson was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center by troopers from the SCHP and its M.A.I.T Team.
The results of the M.A.I.T Teams’ investigation into the crash revealed that Impala Richardson was driving was travelling west on Calhoun Road when she lost control of the car, crossed left of center in a curve, dropped off the edge of the road, and struck a tree. Gordon, who was a front seat passenger in Chevrolet, died as a result of his injuries.
The SCHP M.A.I.T. Team is still working toward closing their investigation into this fatal collision.
