Lexington, SC (5/16/2013 Paul Kirby) – One person was burned in a Lexington house fire Sunday morning. The fire happened shortly before 7:00 a.m. in the 400 block of Plantation Drive which is in a subdivision behind the Publix Supermarket off Old Cherokee Road in the town.
Lexington police officers reported the fire and said there was smoke in the home and a patient on scene suffering from burns to the upper body. The fire service responded with a full structural response but when the first due engine arrived, they encountered only light smoke. The first crew quickly released the additional responding fire equipment and turn their attention to assisting EMS and the burned patient.
Crews from Lexington County EMS treated the patient at the scene and then transported emergent to a local medical facility. The patient’s burns were serious and covered approximately 30% of their upper body and arms.
The fire service has not said what was burning in the home or how the person got burned. The firefighters ensured the smoke was removed and the fire had not extended before returning to their station.
