Chapin, SC 01/31/2025 (Paul Kirby) – One person has died after crashing a car near the Town of Chapin Friday. According to Master Trooper William Bennett of the SC Highway Patrol (SCHP), the single vehicle crash happened on Westwood Drive approximately 1 mile west of the Town of Chapin on Friday, January 31, 2025.
Trooper Bennett said that one person was in a 2016 Ford Explorer travelling west on Westwood Drive toward Newberry County when the driver lost control and went off the road. The Ford struck a mailbox, a culvert, and then an embankment before turning over and coming to a stop. That driver died at the scene as a result of injuries they sustained in the collision.
Representatives of Lexington County Corner Margaret Fisher’s office responded to the crash and assisted the SCHP who was beginning a preliminary investigation. Coroner Fisher has not yet released the name of the person who died in this collision.
