Palmetto Treasurers outside of South Congaree heavily damages by fire Wednesday morning

South Congaree, SC 08/02/2023 (Paul Kirby) – Palmetto Treasures, an antique, furniture and home furnishings store located at 4643 Edmund Highway, caught fire and was heavily damaged Wednesday morning. The fire was reported at approximately 11:00 a.m. and when the first fire trucks arrived, they had heavy smoke showing from the building.

As additional trucks and firefighters arrived on scene, several attack lines were pulled, an aggressive interior attack was made, and a fire hydrant was secured on Edmund Highway for water supply. That 5-inch supply hose blocked the two lanes of traffic from Edmund toward South Congaree. Lexington County Sheriff Deputies assisted with that. The hose was disconnected and removed so that the road could be reopened sometime just before 1:00 p.m.

No one was reported injured by Lexington County following the fire. The building was heavily damaged, and its contents were destroyed by the fire. A spokesperson Lexington said that a fire marshal was on the scene Wednesday afternoon to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
