Pelion community to have nighttime Christmas parade this weekend

Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) 12/09/2020 - A group of community minded individuals have organized a Christmas parade for the Pelion community this weekend. The parade will be held on Saturday evening in order for it to be even more magical as all the floats and units will be alight with Christmas cheer.

According to event organizer Joy Jordan, she and Todd Bolton have been working on this together. It was something they wanted to do after seeing so many community events being cancelled this year due to the pandemic.

Those who would like to participate should begin to gather at the Pelion Sport’s Complex on Fort Street behind the Pelion Branch Library and Senior Citizens Center at or before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020. The parade will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. It will travel down Pine Street (SC Hwy 302), cross Main Street at the light, and turn right onto Lydia Street at the SCDOT maintenance shed. The parade will disband at the Pelion High School parking lot. All these roads will be shut down by the Pelion Police department during the parade.

Former Pelion Police Chief Mike Crider (ret) will lead the parade for its inaugural year and B-106 FM is helping with the parade’s line-up Saturday. Highway 55 Café will also be out with its food truck selling great meals or snacks. Other participants include Olly Otter and of course the jolly ole’ elf himself, Santa Clause.

The parade entrants are being finalized now but if you call Joy, she may can still add you in. She can be contacted at (803) 206-8849 or by email at joyjordan209@gmail.com.
