Gaston, SC 01/04/2022 (Paul Kirby) – A Pelion man has been arrested and charged with a Hit and Run involving Death after SC State Troopers say they believe he was driving the pickup truck that struck and killed a moped driver on Fish Hatchery Road Monday night. Charles M. Besancon, 36 was arrested on Tuesday, January 3 regarding the collision. He faced a judge at a Bond Hearing around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Troopers say that Besancon was driving a Ford F-150 on Fish Hatchery Road between 10 and 11:00 p.m. He hit the moped and its rider but continued driving without rendering aid or summonsing help.

His victim was identified yesterday by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as Darrell Ferris Branham, 37, of Leesville. Branham was transported to a local hospital where he died of the injuries, he sustained in the collision later that night.
