Results of South Congaree’s Municipal Election are in, Mayor Cindy Campbell re-elected

South Congaree, SC 04/02/2024 (Paul Kirby) – The results of today’s South Congaree’s Municipal Election are in. Polls in South Congaree opened at 7:00 a.m. this morning and closed at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Cindy Cambell was up for re-election for the first time and she was being challenged by sitting Council Member Mechelle Mabry.

There were two Town Council seats up for grabs and former Councilmembers Bobby Porter and Dwayne Prosser were running for these seats along with political newcomer Debbie McIver and Sylvia Corley Drennon.

The votes were tabulated and when each had been counted,  the results were as follows:

In the mayor’s race, Cindy Cambell was re-elected by 4 votes.

In the race for the two council seats, political newcomer Debbie McIver won a seat on the council as did former Councilmember Dwayne Prosser. Apparently, Prosser and McIver each garnered 171 votes each.

The Election Commission has 5 days in which to count any absentee vote but in general, those rarely make enough of a difference to flip a spot in this election.

The swearing in should take place at the next scheduled council meeting.
