River Bluff Coach named Basketball Coach of the Year

Lexington, SC 08/06/2021 - River Bluff High School’s Coach Ben Lee was awarded the 2021 Basketball Coach of the Year Award by the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association.


Lee came to River Bluff from the position of J.V. basketball coach at Lexington High School in 2013. He has years of education experience and began his teaching career in 2007 as a social studies teacher at Lexington High.

Lee played three years of basketball at Montreat College in North Carolina. His team won the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament championship and attended the NAIA Division II National Tournament in Branson, Missouri.

Lee transferred to the University of South Carolina. While a student at the University of South Carolina from 2002–2005, Lee assisted with the Lexington Attendance Area's basketball program. In 2005, he became head B-Team boys basketball coach at Lexington High School.

In 2007, he became head junior varsity basketball coach and assistant varsity boys basketball coach at Lexington High. During that time, the varsity boys basketball team made the playoffs every year, earning four region championships, and making Lower State championship appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and State championship appearances in 2010 and 2012.


On March 6, 2021, RBHS beat four-time defending state champs Dorman High School to win the Class 5A boys basketball state title. The victory was Lee’s 100th win at RBHS and the school’s first state basketball title.
