Lexington County, SC 05/06/2021 - According to the Midlands Rivers Coalition, five of the water quality samples collected on Wednesday, May 5th from Midlands area's rivers did not meet the standard for contact recreation. Therefore, a swimming advisory is being issued for the Lower Saluda and Congaree Rivers from I-20 to the Rosewood Boat Ramp.
Follow-up sampling is being conducted today, May 6, and those results will be reported tomorrow afternoon.
Contact recreation (swimming, wading, tubing, paddling) is not recommended in the advisory area. At risk groups, including children, people with compromised immune systems, and people with open wounds, should use extreme caution.
