SC Highway Patrol releases the details of a fatal bicycle collision in Gaston early Thursday

Gaston, SC 08/24/2023 (Paul Kirby) – A person riding a bicycle was killed in a collision with two other vehicles on Hwy. 321 south in the Town of Gaston early Thursday. Lance Corporal William Bennett of the SC Highway Patrol said this collision occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m.

According to Bennett, a person was crossing Hwy. 321 south near Woodtrail Drive on a bicycle when a Nissan sedan and a GMC SUV that were both traveling north toward Cayce struck the biker. Lexington County EMS, the Lexington County Fire Service, and law enforcement responded. The bike’s rider was then transported from the scene but was later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. The occupants of the two vehicles that struck the cyclist were not injured in the incident.


Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has not released the decedent’s name at this point as her team works to notify all next of kin. The collision is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
