SC Highway Patrol reports fatal collision Wednesday outside of Swansea

Swansea, SC 03/01/2024 (Paul Kirby) – The SC Highway Patrol (SCHP) has reported a fatal collision on Wednesday afternoon shortly before 1:00 p.m. According to Master Trooper Willian Bennett of the SCHP, the collision happened on Whetstone Road approximately 4 miles west of the Town of Swansea.

According to Bennett, a Nissan truck was travelling west on Whetstone Road when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, went back across the road, ran off the left of the road's surface, overturned, and hit a tree. The driver of the truck was the only occupant of the truck and died at the scene.

The SCHP and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office are still investigating this collision.
