Lexington County, SC 12/20/2021 - To help holiday traffic flow, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) prohibits lane closures on interstate highways for non-emergency highway work during all recognized “travelling” holidays each year. This includes the period we are now entering that encompasses the Christmas and New Year’s holiday travel period.
These coning lane closure restrictions will begin at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 23 and continue through 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3rd, 2022.
With continued work as a part of the SCDOT’s Strategic 10-Year Plan to rebuild South Carolina’s roads and bridges, more work zones are in place all across South Carolina. SCDOT reminds motorists to remain alert and use caution. They use the phrase, “Let ‘em Work. Let ‘em Live,” to remind motorist to be mindful of all state and contract workers in construction zones.
Motorists may keep up with travel conditions by using SCDOT’s 511 system, which provides real-time traffic information on all South Carolina interstate highways and some of the highways along the coast. Users can call 511 or access www.511SC.org 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and download the free app.
