West Columbia, SC 08/12/2026 - The South Carolina Department of Transportation will close and detour the Pine Street bridge over Congaree Creek in Lexington County for repairs beginning Monday, August 17.
The bridge is expected to reopen by September 18. These dates may change depending on weather conditions.
As part of this closure a detour route has been set up. A map of the detour can be found below. Please note that Pine Street will be open to local traffic only, except at the bridge site.
SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention to signs and crews when driving through the area.
The temporary closure sounds inconvenient, but it’s good that a clear detour is being provided while the repairs are completed. I found highflybet app useful for checking similar roadwork and traffic updates in the area. Hopefully the weather cooperates so the bridge can reopen on schedule. Drivers should definitely allow a little extra time and watch for crews near the work zone.
