Second suspect wanted for armed robbery in South Congaree turns himself in

South Congaree, SC 05/21/2025 (Paul Kirby) – The second suspect wanted in an armed robbery of a business in the Town of South Congaree has turned himself in at the headquarters of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. The first suspect and co-defendant in this case, Nathaniel Wayne Thomas, was taken into custody by law enforcement late last week.
Officials with the South Congaree Police Department said that they were inundated with an overwhelming number of tips from the community that helped lead to the arrest of the second suspect. They have identified him as 20-year-old, Antwan Sumter Jr. Sumter has been charged with Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Conspiracy.
The arrest of these 2 concludes a lengthy armed robbery investigation of a business involving multiple victims including a 2-year-old child and her mother.
A check of the Lexington County Detention Center’s on-line records indicated that both suspects were not in the jail as of Wednesday afternoon. Thomas posted a surety bond of $23,000 last week. Information on Sumter’s bond amount or his whereabouts have not been released.
