“I ran for the State Senate to help end ‘business as usual,’ and to make a conservative change for South Carolina. In just my first term, I have been honored to help support legislation to make our state safer by cracking down on dangerous drugs, to defend law enforcement, protect our Second Amendment rights, and remove politics from the classroom so children can learn,” Senator Billy Garrett said. “But the better news is we are just getting started! Serving in the South Carolina Senate is a great honor. I am reminded daily that my commitment to the people of Greenwood, Saluda, and Lexington Counties is to be accessible and accountable. I will continue to serve with a consistent record of Promises Made, Promises Kept.”
In just his first three years in office, Senator Garrett was vital in securing $36 million for the construction of a new Conestee Dam, protecting the Saluda Watershed including Lake Greenwood, the Saluda River, and Lake Murray from a potential $2 billion catastrophic cleanup. He also played an important role in expanding highspeed broadband internet to Greenwood County to be completed in 2025. Importantly, he has secured $226 million for local schools, $83 million for Lander University, $31 million for Piedmont Technical College, $8 million for the Greenwood Genetics Center, $3 million for a new urgent care center in Saluda County, $1.7 million for law enforcement and first responders.
Senator Garrett has delivered results for District 10, totaling more than $540 million in critically needed projects that directly affect the lives of District 10 citizens, all while returning tax dollars to the people of South Carolina to the levels of more than $1 billion – a record of “promises made, promises kept,” unmatched in his first term. Senator Garrett looks forward to the opportunity of continuing in this record in his next four years of service as State Senator.
Senator Garrett was elected to the State Senate representing District 10 in 2020. Senator Garrett is a lifelong resident of South Carolina, a conservative Republican, devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and small businessman. Billy has earned a reputation as a never-quit fighter who is actively prepared to move District 10 and South Carolina forward in his policy-making duties.
