Sheriff Koon says an investigation is underway into inmates death in Lexington County detention Center

Lexington, SC 07/14/2025 – A Lexington County Detention Center inmate died Friday after being taken to a hospital.

The inmate has been identified as 25-year-old Morgan Daniel Kannaday of Gaston, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

“State troopers arrested Mr. Kannaday June 29 due to traffic offenses, a DUI and a drug charge,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “He had been held at the jail since he was booked.”

Kannaday was transported to Lexington Medical Center Friday morning, according to Koon.

“In accordance with our policy, SLED is investigating Mr. Kannaday’s death,” Koon said.
