Lexington, SC 02/02/2024 (Paul Kirby) - Investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department were working on a death investigation shortly after noon Friday. They posted this to their social media site at 12:08 p.m.
According to motorist in the area, the amount of patrol vehicles and crime scene technicians in that vicinity were causing traffic disruptions back toward Columbia. A death investigation does not automatically indicate that a crime has been committed. It simply means that someone has died and the cause of the person's death may not be obvious. Even if a person has an obvious gunshot wound, investigators will need to decide if they were shot by someone else, the injury was self inflicted, or there was an accidental discharge.
This is all the information that the LCSD has provided. The exact cause of death will be determined by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. This may require an autopsy to determine. We will update as we know more.
